Our healthcare system is broken

In America over 75,000 lives are lost each year to synthetic opioids such as fentanyl and its analogs. Opioids are now the biggest killer of Americans between the ages of 18 and 49.

A Path To Inner Wellbeing

Our healthcare system is broken. We saw closely and experienced personally how synthetic opioids and fentanyl ravaged through our communities’ destroying families and towns in its wake. These drugs are killing 75,000 people a year in America. As our community hollowed, we felt helpless and distraught. Not being able to bare the sight of another member of our town dying, we went searching for solutions.

Our journey began in 2020. We visited doctors, nurse practitioners and healthcare clinicians. They pointed us towards methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone clinics. Unfortunately, these clinics inadvertently victimize the victims. Set up in rundown buildings in dangerous neighborhoods they treat sufferers like cattle. There is an aspect of shame associated in being seen at these facilities and then there is the cost. Methadone generally costs between $2,600 to $5,200 per year. This leads to poor access and treatment, people relapsing and the vicious cycle of addiction and death continuing.

As we could not find solutions in America we travelled to different parts of the world. On our travel to Indonesia, we discovered an ancient medicinal leaf colloquially known as Kratom. We observed firsthand how it alleviated chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression. Above all we saw how it treated opioid addiction. In that moment we knew that we needed to bring this product home for the benefit of all those families that were suffering.

Kratom (Mitragyna Speciosa) is a tree which is a member of the coffee family, indigenous to Southeast Asia. Kratom leaves contain chemical compounds known as bioactive alkaloids. The most important compounds are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine.

Kratom is typically consumed by swallowing a capsule or in powder form. The powder is often mixed into food or drinks and may be brewed as a tea. In parts of SE Asia people may also chew on the raw leaf.

Kratom’s effects may depend on the amount taken, potency, formulation of the product, the way it is ingested, other drugs in a person’s system, a person’s underlying medical conditions, and a person’s previous experience with the substance, among other factors.

Kratom has both stimulant-like effects (increased energy, alertness and rapid heart rate) and effects that are similar to sedatives (relaxation and pain relief). Kratom in smaller doses produces stimulant-like effects and in larger doses produces sedative-like effects.
